HIGHWAY GOMANTAK....

FRIED SEER FISH or KINGFISH or SURMAI FRY

Last week we went to a quaint little restaurant for our afternoon lunch.
The restaurant is called HIGHWAY GOMANTAK its at Bandra and just along the highway.

KOBDI-VADA OR CHICKEN GRAVY VADA PLATE

FISH PLATE WHICH HAS FISH CURRY IN IT

HIGH WAY GOMANTAK

OUTSIDE THE RESTAURANT

DAY'S MENU

GOMANTAKI food is the food which is from the coastal region and which uses coconut as its base for gravies.
I love going to this restaurant because of its simplicity and the ambience which is really quite different from the other restaurants in Mumbai. It has a simple food which is like home cooked food and served in a way that makes you feel as though you are at home.

You are absoutly right about Highway Gomantak. It's the best authenticate Gomantaki restaurant in Mumbai. Even though we are veggies, we have been their 4/5 times for Vade, Sol Kadi Tandalachi Bhakari and veg.thali

WOW !!!
Mahek,
The snap of the Surmai is really awesome. Its my favourite fish(I like thick pieces deepfried).
I always ensure that I order for Surmai at any Malvani or Gomantaki Outlet.Been to Highway Gomantak once - But after this post of yours, I think I need to visit them again ! Great work !

Hi,
I found your blog thru Onehotstove. Back in the day, I'd love to go to Gomantak for their Surmai fry. Do you have the recipe for it? That would be amazing! Also - Mahesh lunch home in Fort and Matruchaya in Worli - have awesome surmai fry too. Mmmmmm. Your blog brought back some delicious memories.

Whenever I visit India, I have to go to Gomantak with my college friends for a nice fry fish thali, not only does the food taste awesome it brings back memories when we were college kids & used to go to Gomantak for our fish cravings.

Hey Mahek,

Thanks for those pictures, it brought back some really great memories, some ten years ago, where we (my soulmate and me) spend a lot of evenings eating the spicy chicken curry.
My soulmate is my wife now and every year once in a while(we live in LA now) we would long to eat there.

Thanks...

Food very good, tasty and yummy, but the quantity is too less and over rated if they could work out on any one area it could be one the best indian tradional food joint.
